66: Tanka for Sonnet 66

Tired with all these, for restful death I cry,
As, to behold Desert a beggar born,
Tired with all these, from these would I be gone,
Save that, to die, I leave my love alone.

Tired with all these, for restful death I cry,
As, to behold Desert a beggar born,
And needy Nothing trimm’d in jollity,
And purest Faith unhappily forsworn,
And gilded Honour shamefully misplaced,
And maiden Virtue rudely strumpeted,
And right Perfection wrongfully disgraced,
And Strength by limping Sway disabled,
And Art made tongue-tied by Authority,
And Folly, doctor-like, controlling Skill,
And simple Truth miscall’d Simplicity,
And captive Good attending captain Ill:
Tired with all these, from these would I be gone,
Save that, to die, I leave my love alone.

Tired with all these, for restful death I cry,
As, to behold (見よ) Desert a beggar born,
And needy (貧乏な; 貧乏人) Nothing trimm’d (=trimmed; trim 刈り取る) in jollity (陽気, 浮かれ騒ぎ),
And purest Faith unhappily forsworn (forswearの過去分詞; forswear 誓ってやめる),
And gilded (gild 金めっきする; 飾る) Honour shamefully misplaced (置きたがえる, 不適切にすえる),
And maiden Virtue rudely strumpeted (strumpet
And right Perfection wrongfully disgraced (disgrace
And Strength by limping Sway (揺らぐこと, 振動) disabled,
And Art made tongue-tied (口ごもった) by Authority,
And Folly (愚, 愚劣, 愚行), doctor-like, controlling Skill,
And simple Truth miscall’d (miscall 間違った名で呼ぶ; 呼び違える) Simplicity,
And captive (捕虜になった, とらわれの) Good attending captain Ill:
Tired with all these, from these would I be gone,
Save that, to die, I leave my love alone.
