シェイクスピア・ソネット鑑賞短歌7: Tanka for Sonnet 7

中湖 康太

7.
君の美は 年重ねても なお留む
ただその系譜 子なくば絶える
Yet mortal looks adore his beauty still,
Attending on his golden pilgrimage;
So thou, thyself outgoing in thy noon,
Unlookst on diest, unless thou get a son.

Lo, in the orient when the gracious light
Lifts up his burning head, each under eye
Doth homage to his new-appearing sight,
Serving with looks his sacred majesty;
And having climb’d the steep-up heavenly hill,
Resembling strong youth in his middle age,
Yet mortal looks adore his beauty still,
Attending on his golden pilgrimage;
But when from highmost pitch, with weary car,
Like feeble age, he reeleth from the day,
The eyes, ‘fore duteous, now converted are
From his low tract and look another way:
  So thou, thyself outgoing in thy noon,
  Unlookst on diest, unless thou get a son.

キーワード訳注
Lo(見よ), in the orient when the gracious(優雅な) light
Lifts up his burning head, each under eye
Doth homage(忠誠を誓う) to his new-appearing sight,
Serving with looks his sacred majesty;
And having climb’d the steep-up heavenly hill,
Resembling strong youth in his middle age,
Yet mortal(死すべき) looks adore his beauty still,
Attending on his golden pilgrimage(巡礼);
But when from highmost pitch, with weary car,
Like feeble age, he reeleth(よろめく) from the day,
The eyes, ‘fore duteous(忠実な), now converted are
From his low tract(管;地域) and look another way:
  So thou, thyself outgoing in thy noon,
  Unlookst on diest, unless thou get a son.
