英訳 万葉撰歌-95 Selected Poems of Manyoshu-95 (1-16)
冬ごもり 春さり来(ｸ)れば 鳴かざりし 鳥も来鳴(ｷﾅ)きぬ 咲かざりし 花も咲けれど 山をしみ 入りても取らず 草深(ｸｻﾌﾞｶ)み 取りても見ず 秋山の 木(ｺ)の葉を見ては 黄葉(ﾓﾐﾁﾞ)をば 取りてそしのふ 青きをば 置きてそ嘆く そこし恨めし 秋山我(ｱﾚ)は
As spring comes after the winter, the birds that hadn’t sung come back and sing, and the flowers that hadn’t bloomed yet bloom, but even though I go into the thick mountains I don’t pick them, and even though I pick the grass deep I don’t see them. When I look at the autumn leaves on the mountains, I pick up the yellow ones and admire them. But I leave the green ones as they are and lament them. That’s the only thing I regret. That’s the kind of autumn mountain I like.

(現代語訳)
(冬ごもり)春がやって来ると、今まで鳴かなかった鳥も来て鳴く。咲かなかった花も咲くけれど、山は茂っているので、入って手に取りもしない。草も深く、手に取ってみることもない。秋の山の木の葉を見ては、黄葉を手に取って賞美する。青い葉はそのままにして嘆く。その点だけ残念に思う。そんな秋山が、私は(気に入っている)
