千鳥鳴く 佐保(ｻﾎ)の川門(ｶﾜﾄ)の 瀬を広み 打橋(ｳﾁﾊｼ)渡す 汝(ﾅ)が来(ｸ)と思(ｵﾓ)へば
I will build a bridge across the birds singing Sahogawa River,
So that the wide rapids you could cross over.
(現代語訳)
千鳥の鳴く佐保川の渡りは瀬が広いので、板を打って橋を作っておきます。あなたが来ると思うので
大伴坂上郎女 (ｵﾎﾄﾓﾉｻｶｳﾍﾉｲﾗﾂﾒ)
I will build a wooden bridge across the Sahogawa River,
So that the wide rapids you could cross over.
